Leader Speech

This week the year 7's wrote a script about why we should be a leader. After a couple of days we were finally ready to present them. My speech is about what a leader is and what a leader needs to do and also adding what my background was like. I went for all 3 since I might not make one. The 3 roles that were available were head students, manaiakalani leaders and sports leaders. There were others that were before me so I was getting quite nervous. I was nervous at first but then felt confident that I would do well. After saying my speech I felt relieved that was over and I really enjoyed listening to the others saying their speeches. Below is the script that I wrote and the speech I said.

Head Girl, Manaiakalani or Sports Leader

I wonder how it feels to be a leader? I really want to find out the answer to this question so that is why I should represent our school as your Head Girl, Manaiakalani Leader or Sports Leader for 2020. I have the initiative and wisdom to know I will do well in this role. I believe a leader should be fair with everyone and should have the capability to motivate and influence others to do the right thing. There are many values that Leaders need to follow like ownership, responsibility, respect, leadership and many other values. Kia Ora, my name is Haylee and I know that I will be a great ambassador for 2020 and here are the reasons why.

Even though I haven’t been here that long, there isn’t a reason why I shouldn’t be a leader. Being a leader isn’t new to me since I have always been a role model to family and friends. My dad has also been a leader so I always look up to him, as he is the chief of my village. As the eldest sibling I have a role, and that is to be to a great big sister. My parents depend on me to be a role model. As a leader I will be supportive and will encourage others to keep going. I have taken on some leadership roles at my old school, so I have the confidence to step up to this challenge. I have gone into inter school events and represented my school in front of very large crowds and have participated in many events. I am very trustworthy and reliable, that's why I am a perfect candidate for any of the leadership roles. I’ve had my thoughts about becoming a leader of 2020 and have always been determined to reach my goal.

Leaders are responsible and determined. Being an ambassador would be amazing as I will look after the younger students and be a role model for them. I have helped younger children by helping them out in class and have looked after them while it is raining. I will be confident and participate in inter school competitions, as well as the summer learning journey. If there is a need for someone to represent the school I would be more than happy to volunteer. I am independent, I use my initiative and I cooperate with others well. You could even say collaborative is my middle name!

I may have been shy before but I have built up the courage to be social and speak in front of everyone. The leaders of 2019 did a great job, and I know I can step up to the challenge in 2020. I am an Agent of Change, so that’s why I hope to become one of the Leaders for our school. As the Head Girl, Manaiakalani Leader or Sports Leader I will act responsibly to show our students what our CARE values look like. Thank You.

Shakespeare | Romeo and Juliet

This week Miiana and I researched about Romeo and Juliet which is a Shakespeare play. William Shakespeare was a writer who wrote his poems in 10 syllables. One interesting fact I learnt about Shakespeare was that he had 7 siblings. In the slideshow above it shows what we researched about Shakespeare and Romeo and Juliet.

Tennis

This week was our second week of tennis with Peter, our coach. This week we learnt how to volley which is when you hit the ball lightly so it can go back and forth without letting the ball hitting the ground. Together with our partner we played a few rounds and saw how long we could make the ball stay off the ground. After that we placed the ball on the edge of the net and started off playing like that. When we started to do that technique we counted how much times we won, like table tennis. I really enjoyed tennis this week and can't wait for another session.

Rhythm Interactive's visit to P.B.S

This week Johnny from Rhythm Interactive came to P.B.S and showed us how to play the djembe which is a African drum. Our theme was Together we can make a change. We listened to and followed a rhythm which was based on our theme together we can make a change. The whole school got a chance to play with the drums and LS2 helped the juniors. Johnny said if we can say it we can drum it. I found it interesting learning how to play the djembe because I've never played one before. I also found the name of the drum interesting because I've never heard of the name before.

Athletics Day

After tech on Friday we participated in our school athletics day. I was in the blue team with other people from my class. There were many activities on athletics day such as the egg and spoon race and much more. One of my favourite activities was the sponge race which is when you get into a sack, hop to the parachute which you had to crawl under, get the sponge, jump over the high jump pole, soak the sponge into the water then repeat the whole thing again. After all the activities we had our lunch and had sausage sizzles. After having lunch we moved onto sprints. I really enjoyed athletics day since it was my first time.

Monatgues and Capulets | Fight Scene

This week we learnt about the story Romeo and Juliet. We watched a short video about the story to learn about it. After watching the story, we chose a scene. Sakina, Taheesha, Miiana and I chose the scene where the Montague's and Capulet's slaves fought. Then we wrote a play of the scene in our own sentences using the Shakespearean translation. After writing our scripts, we presented it to the class. We created a DLO to show the Montague's and Capulet's fight in pictures.

Shoes Story | Personification

Shoe Personification Story

After waking up from a long nap, it was time for me to get to work. I could smell the stench coming from her feet as she stepped into me. I could feel my whole body getting compressed by her feet. Ohh ! I was so glad that it didn’t start raining. If it did rain my perfectly styled hair would get wet and it would be all messy. As I was walking, I could see many shoes all dirty and scruffy. I felt like I was the only perfect and clean pair of shoes, but then I saw my worst nightmare, a muddy puddle. I was doomed, as my owner stepped into the puddle. I held my breath tightly as well as my mouth. When I opened my eyes in relief, gasping for air, I saw my whole body covered in mud. I guess my owner doesn’t really care about me. As my owner stared down at me, I gave her a dirty evil look. She gasped as she saw how dirty I was, but it was too late. If only she used those two eyeballs in her head then I would still be looking perfectly fine. I could still feel mud stuck in my teeth. I was still mad at my owner after a long day of work. Finally, she took me off as I was tossed into the washing machine. I started dancing with the bubbles. After a long shower I felt fresh and clean. I felt dizzy as I came out of the machine, but I could finally relax after a hard day of work.

This week in writing, we learnt about personification and what it is. Personification is giving non living things human abilities. For us to understand it more we got into a pair and wrote a short story about what a shoe might be feeling if they were a human. My partner was Sakina and the first paragraph above is what we wrote about. In this activity we had our backs against each others and we couldn't talk to each other. One of us opened up a google doc and we communicated on there, this really made me think. In our writing we also used the 5 senses which are look, feel, hear, taste and smell. After about half an hour we proof read with each other. Above is the story we wrote.

History Presentations

For the past few week we have been reading and creating DLO about the Horrible Histories books, in partners. My partner was Sakina, and for the past weeks we have been reading Henry VIII. Henry VIII was the king of England who married 6 women for a son. The pattern was divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived. For this book Sakina and I decided to create a Kahoot and a 5 sentence, 10 syllable summary about Henry VIII and his 6 wives.  After creating the DLO and the Kahoot, we presented it to the class, so they could learn what we learnt about king Henry VIII. From this book, we have learnt about the recent events about Henry VIII. Something that I found interesting about the book was that he married his brothers widow. Another thing I also found interesting was that he was charming and athletic when he was younger.

Tech at Tamaki College

This week for tech we have been programming our m-bots to make the letter 'D'. Before coding, we had a little game of kahoot which involved things to do with the m-bots. After playing kahoot we started coding. It took a lot of time to make it a 'D' but finally we found out what we had to do. All we did was make the m-bot go straight the made a semi circle. This weeks robotics was very interesting and fun and I enjoyed debugging the code.

Tech at Tamaki College

This week for robotics this week we were working the sensors on the m-bots. In the video above it shows what the m-bot did. On the site mBlock, we coded what the m-bot needs to do in order to make it go in a 8. To make it go in a 8 we used the sensors to follow the line. It successfully went in a 8, it took quite a lot of amount to make it go in a 8. I would say it was quite easy but it took quite a long time to figure it is. This was our practice since we were then going to write our initials. After coding the number 8, we used the sensor to stop it in its place or go backwards. By stopping it we put our hands in front of the m-bot and it either stops or goes backwards.

For maths we have been creating a Family Menu to feed a group of 6 or 5 members. In my group I had Chavda, Florence, Alex and Nevaeh. We have created a google document that has each day of the week including the food that we will be having for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. In this task we were allowed to have 1 day of fast food. My group has chosen that we will McDonald's as out fast food, we have decided to have it on the last day of the week.

The real cost of owning a pet

This week we had a task where we looked at how much a pet would cost. In my group was Victoria, Florence, Fui and Nyjah. For this task we picked a Pomeranian and the information that we collected is above. The average weight of a Pomeranian is 1 kg-3 kg which is fairly light. The name of our dog is Bangtan Sonyeondan which was inspired from our favourite k-pop group, BTS. There is some information above of how much it would cost to own a Pomeranian.
