LI: To explore the international current events.
This week, we explored the international currents events and some of the different types of current events. Newspaper editors make choices everyday, about what to share with the world. On a google maps, Sakina, Florence and I worked collaboratively to plot locations about these current event stories. We really enjoyed finding out about these stories, which was very interesting.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teacher is Mrs Anderson.

Steps
LI: To recognise Suffixes
Today I did steps which is a site where it can help you learn words and understand it. Steps has many of activities you can do with the words. For steps today I practised putting the syllables of each word together where you join the letters together to make a word. I enjoyed this activity because I made errors but I fixed them and tried again so now I have a better understanding.

Venn Diagram
LI: To find as many similarities and differences as you can.
This week Sakina, Victoria, Florence, Taheesha and I made a Venn diagram about the differences from the past and the present. For our Venn diagram we included what differences have been made now. Something I found really interesting was that back then they had to use a whistle to notify people that the train was coming. But thankfully now we have technology to notify us that the train was coming in a few minutes. I found this challenge really interesting as I could learn about the past and compare it to what we have now,
Maths Challenge
LI: Finding the most efficient strategy
This week Sakina and I worked together to figure out our maths challenge. In this challenge the question was about how much metres of material they would need to make 26 Ta'ovala. A Ta'ovala is a tongan dress which is made like a mat that both men and women wear for formal occasions. The strategy that we used in this DLO was halving 12 until we got to 1.5, which meant that it would take 1.5 metres of material to make 1 Ta'ovala. After we did that we multiplied 1.5 by 26 which gave us the answer 39, which meant that 39 metres of material would be used for 26 Ta'ovala. I found this maths question interesting because I used a strategy that I rarely use.

Maths Challenge
LI: To find the most efficient strategy.
This week Sakina and I worked collaboratively to complete our maths challenge about Hemi and his whanau going fishing. In this maths challenge we were asked to find a strategy that find the easiest and use that strategy to solve the questions. I found this challenge really interesting because their was a new part where we added a rule which is the strategy we used to solve the problems.

Maths Challenge
LI: To find the most efficient strategy to solve the problem
This week Sakina, Florence and I worked collaboratively to solve these maths questions about Zion and his Koro going fishing. For this challenge we used the most efficient strategies which were division, subtraction and addition. I enjoyed this challenge because the questions were fun but also they were hard to solve.

Maths Challenge 1
LI: To show others your understanding of maths
This week Florence, Sakina and I worked collaboratively to solve a daily maths challenge about Kahoa Lole. The strategies we used in this task was multiplication and subtraction. Florence, Sakina and I worked collaboratively to make this DLO having set our own roles.
Haiku Challenge 2
LI: To correctly structure and write a Haiku poem.
This week for another Haiku challenge I worked with Sakina and Florence. For this activity we chose to write about winter, that has 3 verses. A Haiku poem has 5 syllables in the first line, 7 syllables in the second line and another 5 syllables in the last line. Sakina, Florence and I worked collaboratively to make this Haiku poem and so we could communicate on which topic we would like.
Haiku Challenge 1
LI: To correctly structure and write a haiku poem.
This week Florence, Taheesha, Sakina and I worked together to create a Haiku Poem. Our Haiku poem was about the ocean. To create a Haiku it contains a 5 syllable sentence in the first line, 7 syllable sentence in the middle line and another 5 syllable sentence in the last line. This task was fun as I worked collaboratively with my friends and we were able to negotiate on what we wanted the topic to be about.

Te Reo Maori
LI: To help others ask and answer questions about the weather and feelings in Maori.
This week Sakina and I worked collaboratively to make a DLO about how to respond to questions in Maori. In our DLO it includes what the weather might be and what you might be feeling. This task was really helpful as I learned how to respond to questions that are asked commonly.

Morse Code
LI: Learning about Morse Code.
This week for another ANZAC activity I created a DLO about Morse Code. For this DLO I wrote a fact I found interesting and why Morse Code was used. During this activity I found out about a lot of interesting things they used Morse Code for. Morse Code was a method to communicate with others using a light. I found it interesting how soldiers use to use Morse Code to send messages to other soldiers discreetly.

BTS
LI: To learn about an artist.
This week we for a home learning task we made a DLO about a singer or group we like. My favourite group is BTS. In our DLO we included who they are, what genre of music they produce and why we like them. Something that amazes me is that they've been together for 6 years going onto 7 years this year.
